Ngotlawng : A white loin cloth – wrapper for women.

Tharlai zawm: A loin cloth for women, which has a stripe of black over white at the back of the wearer.

Tawnlo puon: The upper garment of the women. The name indicates that the wearer does not encourage touching that part of her body by others. The name simply means ‘forbidden to be touched’.

Hmar am: A finely woven cloth which extends up to the knee and is worn as a mini-skirt.  It is usually wear by the aristocratic / well-to-do women as the lower garment.

Thangsuo puon: Specially designed cloth to be worn by heroes with some remarkable or distinguished achievements. A person who has achieved his aim in life or one who is successful exceedingly in hunting or in production of food crops is considered Thangsuo. Such persons are decorated with the beautifully designed cloth.

Ngotekher: Another loin cloth for women. It has black stripes on white background. The vertical stripes are made prominent while the horizontal ones are made to be faded. This is cleverly done while weaving.

Rukrak puon: A cloth meant to be worn by important and influential persons. It is striped and strangely designed. The weaver is distinctly recognized over all other ordinary persons.

Hmar puon: The most common design of cloth having red and black stripes. It is commonly worn by men and women alike as upper and lower garment.

Pasaltha puon: Specially designed cloth to be worn by heroes and brave warriors who have stood their grounds in front of the enemies and ferocious animals. Only those who have deeds of exceeding bravery to their credit may wear the cloth.

Puonchei: A cloth with special designs having some very intricate patterns woven into the cloth. It is for the ladies and especially considered a cloth for wedding days.

Thlanlam Puon : A stripes of black and white cloth worn by women on mourning day.

The Promoter’s Agreement was signed in the presence of Union Power Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde, Manipur Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh by chairman and managing director, NHPC ABL Srivastava here on October 22.

NHPC signed the Promoter’s Agreement with SJVN Limited and Government of Manipur for setting up a Joint Venture Company (JVC) for implementation of the project in Manipur.

The Tipaimukh Hydroelectric Project has been conceived as a multipurpose storage project on the Barak river with the main objective of hydropower generation along with flood moderation of downstream area.

Almost 200 people belonging to the Hmar community fled and came to Mizoram-Assam border Bairabi town, the only rail link in the state, by train from Dima Hatao district after ethnic clashes between Dimasas and non-Dimasas.
Pachuau said that relief aids like food and blankets would be provided to the refugees while government officials at Bairabi were instructed to look for vacant government buildings for accommodation of the refugees.
“We have instructed district administration officials of the Kolasib district not to enroll the refugees in the electoral rolls and also not to be include them in the lists of beneficiaries under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS),” he said.
While majority of the Hmar refugees stayed in Bairabi some of them were also staying in Phainuam, Saihapui-V and Bilkhawthlir in Kolasib district and Aizawl district”s Saipum village.
